COSLA

Summary 

The Committee for Ongoing Student Learning Assessment (COSLA) was an ad-hoc committee of faculty and administrators formed to recommend a plan for ongoing student learning assessment for academic programs. The Committee worked from spring through fall 2011 and recommended the One Goal, One Measure per Year process.  The plan was adopted by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and presented to the community at the All-Faculty meeting on January 26, 2012.

• Beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year, faculty will investigate one program-level student learning goal by collecting and analyzing information on student performance related to the goal and, based on results, taking action to improve teaching and learning.
• In preparation, spring 2012 was dedicated to developing key program-level student learning goals and identifying or developing at least two measures for each goal,

Charge 

Using the one goal per year framework as a starting point, the Committee for Ongoing Student Learning Assessment is charged with developing recommendations regarding:

1. The structure of an ongoing assessment process that is consistent with NJCU's needs and contributes to establishing a campus culture of inquiry and evidence.
2. An implementation plan addressing factors such as: timeline and milestone, integration with related university/college processes, structure for peer review of assessment plans and results, method for communicating processes and results, and necessary support for faculty in departments/programs.
