Scholarships

To help deserving students meet the financial obligations of pursuing higher education, New Jersey City University scholarships include:

Freshman Scholarships and Transfer Student Scholarships

NJCU offers prestigious merit-based scholarships annually to academically-eligible entering freshmen and transfer students who enroll full-time for the fall semester into an undergraduate program of study.

Freshmen candidates will be considered upon receipt of SAT scores and academic transcripts. Transfer applicants will be considered for scholarships upon receipt of official transcripts from all institutions attended. All transfer scholarship recipients must submit their official, final transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions no later than one week prior to the start of the fall semester. If the final transcript is not received or does not meet the scholarship criteria, the scholarship offer will be reduced or rescinded.

Admissions scholarships are only offered to citizens and permanent residents of the United States. There are a limited number of scholarships offered; awards are contingent upon availability of funds at the time of application.

Scholarships are awarded at the time of admission to the University for first-time incoming students. Scholarship recipients must be offered the scholarship in writing and must return the scholarship acceptance form within the prescribed time.

All scholarships are two- to four-year awards (not including summer semesters), unless otherwise stated. Students must comply with all other requirements outlined in the offer letter.

All scholarship recipients must complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and receive a valid Student Aid Report in order to receive the scholarship. Scholarship amounts will be adjusted to true costs for tuition and fees, with a minimum amount as outlined on the attached table. Adjustment will be based upon the results of the FAFSA as well as other scholarships and grants awarded.

NJCU Endowed and Annual Scholarships for Continuing Students

The University Scholarship Committee annually awards more than 300 scholarships made available by the NJCU Foundation through gifts from friends, corporations, and alumni. These scholarships are awarded to continuing students based on financial need, academic achievement, and/or other merit. For the 2016/2017 academic year the University Scholarship Committee will consider all continuing students that meet the criteria for a specific award. Awards are announced in August.

Robert Noyce Scholarships for STEM Teachers

NSF scholarships and stipends will be awarded to NJCU STEM majors who are obtaining teaching certifications in their fields. Funds will be available to undergraduates for their junior and/or senior years, and post-baccalaureate STEM majors may receive one-year stipends to complete their teacher certification requirements.  For more information, click here.
