Now more than ever, creative people with new ideas and new approaches to problem-solving are in high demand. New Jersey City University’s Art Department nurtures and develops artists and designers through a balance of history and tradition alongside contemporary aesthetic ideas, skills, techniques and technologies.

Your creativity and leadership skills will flourish under the individualized attention of our experienced faculty who will prepare you to thrive in today’s competitive and dynamic art world. Proximity to New York City places you minutes away from museums, galleries, design studios, agents, curators, critics and art collectors. NJCU faculty leverages this proximity to help you unlock your full potential and gain practical insights into launching a successful art/design career. Our complement of studio and non-studio courses offer an array of opportunities to learn, grow and follow your passion.

Students create and study in the Visual Arts Building, a state-of-the-art learning environment that fosters creativity and collaboration. With two galleries and an outdoor sculpture space, exhibition space is ample. You will find artwork by acclaimed and emerging artists, as well as students and faculty. Exhibitions are often accompanied by panel discussions and programming that maximizes the learning experience.
