  • Graduate students will receive a notification in April from the Dean of Students with information on commencement. In addition, you will receive from the Registrar's Office the last week of April a white index card for cap and gown pick up, a calling card, and instructions.

You must present this white index card to the cap and gown company when you pick up your regalia. You do not need to order a cap and gown prior to pick up. There is no separate fee for cap and gown rental.

Cap and Gown distribution for undergraduate students will take place on Tuesday, May 6, Wednesday May 7 and Thursday May 8, 2014 from 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm, on the first floor of the Gilligan Student Union near the NJCU Barnes & Noble’s Bookstore.

GRADUATE STUDENTS: Gowns were uniquely designed for New Jersey City University and therefore are rented each year. All gowns and hoods must be returned immediately following the ceremony. Cap and tassel are yours to keep. We advise graduate students and their families to have pictures taken prior to the ceremony. You cannot leave the arena until you have returned your gown and hood.

When arriving at the IZOD Center, enter the building through the box office lobby. All candidates will proceed down the stairs to the lowest level, and assemble in the line-up area. Signs will be posted to indicate specific college and degree locations. Marshals will be available to direct you to your position.

You will be seated by college. The "calling card" you received in the mail at the end of April card will include information on where you will line-up and where you will sit during the commencement exercises.

Students cleared for a degree will be sent a postcard at the end of June with dates and times when diplomas will be available to be picked up at the Registrar's Office. If you changed your address, call (201) 200-3483.

Please note: Traffic is normally heavy during the morning rush hour on roads leading to the IZOD Center. In addition, construction on the Pulaski Skyway could cause additional significant delays to your travel time. Plan accordingly.
