    Biography

    Basanti D. Chakraborty, Associate Professor of the Early Childhood Education Department and an affiliate of the Women and Gender Studies program, teaches in both programs. She served as a teacher educator in India, at Central Connecticut State University, and City College of the CUNY prior to joining NJCU. Presently, she is a Senator-at-Large and chair of GoGlobal Committee.  Most notably, she served as chair of C& I committee, co-chair of the International Incentives Grants (IIG) committee, co-chair of “Mission and Integrity Committee” of the Self-Study Team of MSCHE.  She served as Professor–In-residence at Henry Snyder High School for five years. She has reviewed scholarly articles, books and presented in numerous professional conferences. Her book Education of the Creative Children has been published by Konark Publishers, India. She has published three book chapters (published by Palgrave McMillan and ACEI) and numerous articles in both national and regional level peer reviewed journals. She holds membership of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum and Development (ASCD).  Internationally, she holds membership of the Global Educational Research Association (GERA), India and World Educational Research Association (WERA). She is a longstanding member of the Publication Committee of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). She has co-edited theme issues, and is presently co-editing the 2014 theme issue; and continues to serve as co-editor of the Idea Sparkers column of the journal Childhood Education of ACEI. She is a Counselor of Kappa delta Upsilon Chapter at NJCU from 2003.
