The New Jersey Society for Public Health Education (NJSOPHE) recognized Dr. Erin O'Neill in 2015, professor in the Health Sciences Department, Public Health Education Program, for supervising an award winning NJCU student-developed and run Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preparation class for students taking the national exam. The workshop was entitled "CHES Prep Bootcamp‚Äù. This was a collaborative effort between New Jersey City University, Rutgers University's School of Public Health, and the NJSOPHE, NJ State-Wide Academic Advisory Board. The NJCU Public Health Education students received an NJ State-wide award for their peer-to-peer video presentation. 

Lead Prevention and Awareness Grant: Health and Newark School District Partners - Dr. Erin O'Neill - Principle Grant Investigator and Dr. Lilliam Rosado, Co-investigator
Health Sciences Department, Public Health Education Program has a University grant (SBR) entitled, Engaging Community and Education Partners in Lead Levels Health Awareness in Drinking Water: A Public Health Response. The grant is a response to the March 6, 2016, mandate to turn off the water fountains in 30 schools while the city health director ordered for blood tests on 17,000 students in the Newark School District. The free testing of children has produced anxiety in parents, teachers, and community members. The Health Sciences Department has an ethical responsibility to alleviate the community health concerns and fears within the population. The grant project seeks to engage NJCU students, health and education partners in a joint initiative to join with the community and provide current, accurate, and timely information on lead poisoning, testing, treatment, and resources.
