High School Summer Scholars

High School Summer Scholars

This summer, New Jersey City University will be offering highly motivated high school students an opportunity to enroll in college-level courses at NJCU. Selected students will be given the opportunity to enroll in our Summer Session II semester which runs from July 6, 2015 to August 6, 2015. All of the courses offered will be college-level courses valued at 3 credits each. Should students attend NJCU after they graduate high school, these courses will be counted toward their degree program. If the students decide to attend another institution other than NJCU, these courses will all be eligible for transfer into most institutions of higher education around the country. This program provides students with a head start for college at a reduced tuition rate and will expose them to a vibrant University environment.

Eligibility

Students who wish to participate in this program should submit the following:
  • The NJCU High School Summer Scholars application.
  • A personal statement explaining your motivation for attending this program.
  • An official high school transcript reflecting all years of high school study.
  • Letter of recommendation from guidance counselor
  • SAT or PSAT scores (if available)

Students who are selected for the program should possess a record of academic achievement along with a demonstrated motivation for academic success. Admission to the program will be based on a combination of high school grades, test scores and the quality of their written personal statement. Students may be required to take the NJCU placement exam as a condition for enrollment.

Cost

Students who are admitted to the program will be charged a reduced rate of tuition and fees. The cost of a 3-credit summer II 2015 course will be $539.01, which includes a 50% discount off of the regular tuition and fees.

Summer II courses

Due to the intensive nature of a five-week summer session program, students are limited to enroll in only one 3 credit course.
