English as a Second Language (ESL) Certification

  • The curriculum requirements vary, depending on whether you already hold a teacher certification:


    ESL Certification Requirements

    (For students already holding a NJ instructional certificate)

    This non-degree certification program is designed for students who already hold a standard New Jersey Department of Education teaching certification, and would like to gain ESL teacher certification. To enter into this program, students must satisfy general admissions requirements for graduate study at NJCU, as discussed in the Graduate Catalog, as well as meeting the state of New Jersey’s requirements for demonstrating Language Proficiency. Students are strongly encouraged to take the courses listed below in the specified phases.
