Multicultural Education Academic - Admissions Requirements

Admission Requirements

Master of Arts in Urban Education with ESL Specialization or Bilingual/Bicultural Specialization

  • GPA of 3.0 from the last completed degree or certification program.
  • Passing scores on the ACTFL Language Proficiency tests as mandated by the NJDOE.
  • A 250-500 word essay discussing your goals and objectives for pursuing admission to the program to which you are applying.
  • Official transcripts from all previous U.S. colleges attended or official NACES course-by-course evaluation of any foreign transcripts*.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional references.
  • Additional documents as required on the admission application form.

Master of Arts in Urban Education with ESL Specialization and Alternate Route Ce program

  • A completed graduate application form, including the application fee.
  • A 250-500 word essay discussing your goals and objectives for pursuing admission to the program to which you are applying.
  • Official transcripts from all previous U.S. colleges attended or official NACES course-by-course evaluation of any foreign transcripts*.
  • A copy of regular CE in ESL (temporary CE not acceptable). A list of your certifications can be downloaded on NJDOE website).
  • Employment verification letter to provide a proof of full-time employment as a lead teacher in K-12 ESL classroom setting.
  • 50 hour Introduction to Teaching K-12 course verification form. Contact the Adult and Continuing Education department for more information about the 50 Hour Course).
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional references.
  • Additional documents as required on the admission application form.

ESL Endorsement and Bilingual/Bicultural Endorsement programs

  • A completed graduate application form, including the application fee
  • A 250-500 word essay discussing your goals and objectives for pursuing admission to the program to which you are applying
  • Official transcripts from all previous U.S. colleges attended or official NACES course-by-course evaluation of any foreign transcripts*
  • Copy of the initial content area certification. A list of your certifications can be downloaded on NJDOE website.

Alternate Route ESL CE program

  • A completed graduate application form, including the application fee.
  • A 250-500 word essay discussing your goals and objectives for pursuing admission to the program to which you are applying.
  • Official transcripts from all previous U.S. colleges attended or official NACES course-by-course evaluation of any foreign transcripts*.
