    NSE Info Session

    If you ever wanted to do a student exchange program but thought another country was too far, NSE may be the perfect program for you. Attend an info session and learn more about how NSE can enrich your college experience. You can spend one or even two semesters at another college in the US on in State tuition and use your tuition aid grants.


    Domestic Violence  

    Presenters: Lois Grosvenor and Gehan Abreu de Colon Location: K646

    Domestic violence has and still continues to impact communities, races, and socio economical groups. This workshop is to discuss what is considered domestic violence, statistic on domestic violence, the cycle of domestic violence and how the power wheel is used. Those who may be experiencing domestic violence are given tools and resources that are available to assist them in getting out of that situation.


    Parenting and College “Balancing Act”  

    Presenters: Aida Lopez Location: R117 

    Date: March 19, 2014 Time: 3:00pm-4:00pm 


    Will focus on student’s who are parents/single parents who struggle on a daily basis to do well academically and balance their duties as parents. Tips will be provided on how to deal with balancing your responsibilities and resources to help you deal with everyday stress.


    How to Handle Conflict and Confrontation

    Date: March 19, 2014 Time: 3:00pm-4:30pm 


    This workshop is designed to help students discover how to get to the real cause of the problem and how to disarm disagreeable people, and how to defuse tense situations. The facilitator will give tips on how to handle anger(your own and others.) Ex: relationships, professors, and in the workplace.)


    The Fundamentals of Planning: Academic, Financial and Career Goals  

    Presenters: Leslie Graham Wilson, OSP Counselors & Cassandra Abelard, NJC/OSP graduate and Financial Consultant/Analyst

    Date: April 10, 2014 Time: 3:00pm-4:00pm 


    Ms. Abelard will share her goal setting strategies as related to her education and career. She will also discuss the basics of financial planning-the steps one should take to enjoy a financially stable future. Ms. Graham will share her experience of serving as Cassandra’s OSP Counselor and Cassandra’s strategic approach to academic, career and financial success.

    Most people don’t understand that self-esteem/worth is one of the most significant key to human behavior. We will discuss the four out of the five “Ws” of Self Esteem. Which are: Why self-esteem, What is Self- Esteem, Where one gets their self-esteem, Who can contribute to their self-esteem, and lastly, how self-esteem impacts your life. As each aspect of Self Esteem is discussed our goal is for the individual to understand the concept, perform some introspection, and also give tools for those who feel they suffer from Low Self Esteem to challenge themselves beginning taking steps to better their Self-Esteem.

    Most people don’t understand how Thoughts impacts their life and their environment. One of the most famous questions that is asked is “What were you thinking?” This workshop is to bring to the fore front thoughts and how they are taken for granted, how it contributes to your emotions, actions, and health. It will also provide steps on how to turn negative thoughts into positive thoughts.


    No Holds Barred: What’s the Real Deal (OSP WOMEN ONLY)

    This workshop will focus on “university life.” Our purpose is to open the lines of communication between our students and to assist our female students into their transition from NJCU into the “real world.”
