    Ray Statlander Memorial Exhibition (12/6 - 12/18)
A special exhibition memorializing the life of Ray Statlander, a professor of art for more than 40 years who passed away earlier in 2013.

The exhibition: approximately 20 paintings and drawings selected from Professor Statlander’s long career.

A former chair of the Art Department, Professor Statlander taught drawing and painting and also served as coordinator of the fine arts specialization. He was instrumental in the development of the graduate program and his contributions to the structure and content of the “Philosophies of Art” course provided an important depth to both the bachelor of arts and bachelor of fine arts programs.

    2013

    José Camacho-Estos Tropicos Tristes (11/13 - 12/17)
(part of Puerto Rico Discovery Day celebration)

The exhibition features twelve recent paintings by the artist José Camacho who has developed a distinct abstract visual language based on images, popular expressions, and literary texts from his native Puerto Rico. Carefully stenciled letters on textured surfaces, map-like forms, and collaged reproductions of Puerto Rican cityscapes express Camacho's unarticulated, perhaps conflicted, regard for his homeland.
