NJCU Abroad
During the 2015-16 academic year, NJCU students traveled abroad in record number—close to 100 students traveled to eight regions of the globe—thanks to the University’s commitment to expanding international opportunities across the curriculum.
Eight students from the accelerated pre-licensure and RN-BSN nursing programs participated in a service learning trip to Tanzania led by faculty members Debra Scardaville and Elizabeth Galetz. The NJCU volunteers worked with local physicians and nurses to provide direct and indirect care at a variety of agencies, including rural dispensaries, elementary schools, hospitals, and public health clinics. Although one NJCU student was fluent in Swahili, the group was assisted by two interpreters.
Five seniors from the NJCU School of Business traveled to Mumbai, India in December to present at the XXIII International Economics Convention, hosted by HR College of Commerce and Economics. Among the competitors were colleges from India, the UK, and Hong Kong.
The students were accompanied by Wanda Rutledge and John Donnellan, both assistant professors of management.
Convention organizers challenged students from around the globe to research the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts of an assigned country, prepare a 35-page paper about those efforts, and present outcomes to Convention attendees.
NJCU’s team—Jackie Cella, Janette Conwell, Erika Isler, Maurice Outlaw, and Kerolos Rophail— were challenged to research the CSR programs and results of Japanese companies and of companies operating in Japan.
