BLUEPRINT FOR TOMORROW’ GALA ON MARCH 24
Three leading corporate partners – Mack-Cali, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation (NPC), and Wyndham Worldwide – and two acclaimed friends of New Jersey City University (NJCU), will be honored at the “Blueprint for Tomorrow” Gala on Thursday, March 24, 2016, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at The Hyatt Regency, in Jersey City.
Mack-Cali, the New Jersey-based real estate giant, will receive the NJCU Corporate Partnership in Business Award. Mack-Cali has been instrumental in facilitating the relocation of the NJCU School of Business to Harborside Plaza 2 in the heart of Jersey City’s business district and supporting the growth and long-term vision for the University’s future. Mitchell E. Rudin, chief executive officer of Mack-Cali, will accept the award.
Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation will receive the NJCU Corporate Partnership Award in STEM. Novartis has supported the NJCU Proyecto Science program for the past 10 years. In the past year, NPC held two workshops for NJCU students to help develop talent and recruit summer interns. The internships were designed to lead to career opportunities. Wanda Sims, Associate Director, Alliance Development & Philanthropy for Novartis, will accept the award.
Wyndham Worldwide will receive the NJCU Corporate Partnership Award in Student Mentorship.
The Company has supported NJCU business students through its scholarship program and, this year, launched the Wyndham Worldwide Mentoring Program at the NJCU School of Business. This program consists of Wyndham Worldwide associates providing monthly career development workshops and both individual and group mentoring to NJCU business students. Mary Falvey, Wyndham Worldwide’s executive vice president and chief human resources officer, will accept the award on the Company’s behalf.
In addition, John Guigon, Esq. and Dorothy Guigon of Bonita Springs, Florida, loyal supporters of the University for almost three decades, will receive the NJCU Founders Award. In 1985, Mr. Guigon joined the Board of Trustees of NJCU, then Jersey City State College, and served until 1991 when he retired as vice president and general counsel of the pharmaceutical firm Schering-Plough.
“We are honored to recognize the visionary leadership and generosity our three corporate partners and longtime friends John and Dorothy Guigon,” Dr. Sue Henderson, NJCU president, said. “Our honorees deeply value education and strive to help NJCU students chart their ‘blueprints for tomorrow’ so they may achieve their dreams and launch rewarding careers,” she added.
The Gala will benefit scholarship funds at NJCU, a four-year, state university with a student population of more than 8,200 undergraduate and graduate students. Although NJCU’s undergraduate in-state tuition remains the lowest in New Jersey, 85 percent of full-time undergraduates qualify for some type of need-based financial aid.
Founded as a teacher’s college in 1927, NJCU now offers 43 undergraduate degree programs, 28 master’s degree programs, and two doctoral programs. In addition to its Main Campus in Jersey City, NJCU operates two off-campus sites—NJCU School of Business at Harborside in Jersey City’s financial district and NJCU at Brookdale in Wall.
Leaders in the fields of business and industry, education, public service, and the non-profit community will be among the guests celebrating the three honorees at the “Blueprint for Tomorrow Gala”.
