‘An Afternoon of Short Films’ from The Black Maria Film Festival’s Global Insights Collection on April 11

New Jersey City University’s (NJCU) “Women in Film” class, led by Media Arts Professor Jane Steuerwald, will present a custom-curated program of short films from The Black Maria Film Festival’s Global Insights Collection on Tuesday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. in the IMAP Studio of Fries Hall, on the NJCU Main Campus at 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.

The program is free and open to the public.

After weeks of pre-screening and study in class, students chose works that feature contemporary women filmmakers focusing on issues of social justice.

The Black Maria Film Festival was founded in 1981 as a tribute to Thomas Edison’s development of the motion picture at his laboratory, dubbed the “Black Maria” film studio, the first in the world, in West Orange. The Festival attracts and showcases the work of independent filmmakers internationally.

The Black Maria travels to audiences at museums, cinemas, cultural centers, colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad. The Festival is a project of the Thomas A. Edison Media Arts Consortium, an independent non-profit organization housed in the Media Arts Department of NJCU.
