NJCU Students Honored for Academic Achievement By New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund

Forty graduating seniors at New Jersey City University (NJCU) will be recognized with 2017 Graduate Achievement Awards by the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund on Friday, April 7, 2017 in a ceremony at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The honorees are being recognized for academic and personal achievement throughout their studies as undergraduates at NJCU. Those recognized for Outstanding Academic Achievement have earned a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5-3.99; Academic Achievement honorees have earned a CGPA of 3.2-3.49; Outstanding Achievement indicates meritorious personal excellence.

The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program provides financial assistance and support services to students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds who attend institutions of higher education in the state of New Jersey.

The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund was created by law in 1968 to ensure meaningful access to higher education for those who come from backgrounds of economic and educational disadvantage.

The Fund is distinctive in the comprehensiveness of its approach. To ensure the opportunity to attend college, the Fund provides supplemental financial aid to help cover college costs (such as books, fees, room and board) that are not covered by the state's Tuition Aid Grant program. To ensure a viable opportunity to succeed and graduate, the Fund supports a wide array of campus-based outreach and support services at 28 public and 13 independent institutions. 

The EOF is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are appointed by the Governor.
