Golden Gothics are True to Their School with Record Turnout

May 31, 2017
NJCU welcomed the single largest group ever (34) of Golden Gothics alumni to attend Commencement. The Golden Gothics are a distinguished group of alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago. As is the honored tradition at NJCU, Golden Gothics were robed in academic regalia, joined the Commencement procession, were seated at the front of those gathered for the ceremony and were recognized from the podium for their vital role in providing continuity to the University’s mission. The group represented graduation years from 1949 to 1967, the newest Golden Gothic class and one that was represented by 20 alumni. The other years represented were 1955, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, and 1966. Out-of-state Golden Gothics traveled from Florida, North Carolina, and New York for the Commencement festivities. Two Golden Gothics celebrated the graduation of family members from NJCU this year – Cosmo Mendolla, ’67, who watched grandson Gustavo Bordenabe receive his degree, and Dr. Catherine Dorsey Gaines, ’55, who helped cheer on great niece Jasmine Dorsey.
