Lake Riviera Middle School teacher Gary Paxton ’10 has been named the recipient of the 2017 Excellence in Education Award, which is presented annually by the 10th Legislative District to an elementary, middle school or high school teacher who best exemplifies commitment and dedication to classroom teaching, according to Jersey Shore Online.

Paxton, a former engineer who began teaching at the middle school in 2006, includes among his accomplishments the writing and winning of grants to advance the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) on behalf of his students. He also leads the Kettle Creek Crusaders, a weekly environmental club for students at Lake Riviera.

“This honor clearly underscores the significant impact Gary Paxton has made on the lives of young people who attend Lake Riviera Middle School, as well as in his professional community, and on the broader community,” said NJCU President Sue Henderson. “Our alumni are very important to the NJCU community and we are always delighted when we have the opportunity to recognize their important milestones and accomplishments.”
