Two New Jersey City University (NJCU) students and one alumna have been selected as Semi-Finalists for the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Awards for 2018-2019.

They are part of an elite group of about 3,200 students, who were chosen as semi-finalists from over 10,000 students who apply for the highly-competitive Fulbright program each year. Their applications will now be reviewed by the Fulbright country commissions.

All three NJCU semi-finalists were selected in the English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) Fulbright Grant category. The Fulbright Semi-Finalists for 2018-2019 are: John Gurbisz: Graduate student, MAT, Secondary Education:  English Teaching Assistant to Czech Republic; Michael Sowell: Undergraduate, English-Education K-12: English Teaching Assistant to Bulgaria; and Graciela Cabreja: alumna who received a BA, December 2017, with a double major in Sociology and Women's and Gender Studies: English Teaching Assistant to Laos.

NJCU is among the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2017- 2018 Fulbright U.S. Students. The announcement was recently made by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Top-producing institutions are highlighted annually in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Click this link for details https://www.chronicle.com/article/Top-Producers-of-Fulbright/242557.

NJCU is one of just three institutions of higher learning in New Jersey to be recognized as top producer of U.S. Fulbright students for 2017-2018; Princeton University and Rutgers University—New Brunswick also hold the distinction.
