NJCU Foundation Appoints Stephen Hess, Senior Banker and Managing Director J.P. Morgan Private Bank to Board

The New Jersey City University (NJCU) Foundation announced the appointment of Stephen Hess, Senior Banker and Managing Director, JPMorgan to the NJCU Foundation Board of Directors.

Stephen Hess is a Managing Director and Banker for the Northeast Region of the J.P. Morgan Private Bank. He leads a team of professionals advising ultra-high net worth families, senior executives, hedge fund principals, and financial sponsors on a variety of matters – including asset allocation and investment portfolio construction, capital and liquidity strategies, and wealth transfer opportunities and implementation.

Formerly, Mr. Hess served as a Capital Advisor for the J.P. Morgan Private Bank analyzing, structuring, and documenting credit transactions. Prior to that role, Mr. Hess worked in the Risk Management Group for the J.P. Morgan Private Bank developing the methodology for evaluating collateral and monitoring it versus credit exposure. He joined J.P. Morgan in 1994 as an analyst for its internal consulting group, Management Services.

Mr. Hess received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy from Hamilton College and a Master of Business Administration from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.

In 2010, NJBiz named Mr. Hess as one of New Jersey’s “Forty under Forty” recognizing him for his commitment to business growth, to professional excellence, and to the community. Mr. Hess is on the Board of Trustees for the Montclair Art Museum. He lives in Chatham, New Jersey with his wife and three children.

In commenting on his appointment, Hess stated, “I am pleased to be part of the NJCU Foundation Board, whose work plays such a critical role in the lives and livelihoods of the Jersey City community and beyond.  The pursuit of education is vital not only for increasing economic mobility, but also for its impact on society as a whole, and I am eager to begin my work with the Board.”
