JERSEY CITY, N.J. | For the second time in five weeks, New Jersey City University (NJCU)’s trailblazing women’s wrestling program has been profiled on television in New York City. On March 3, 2021, the Gothic Knights were featured on WABC-TV Eyewitness News/ABC-7 in New York as part of its Women’s History Month coverage.
The Gothic Knights — the first collegiate women’s wrestling program in the history of the state of New Jersey and the tri-state area — were featured by Crystal Cranmore, WABC-TV New York’s Race & Culture reporter. Interviewed for the story were head coach and former World Champion and two-time United States Olympian Elena Pirozhkova, first-year captain and former New Jersey state champion Sandra Guerrero, first-year national qualifier Johnae Drumright and Dr. Danielle Beam, Associate Athletics Director for Student Development.
On January 28, the women’s wrestling team was previously featured on WCBS-2 television in New York. The Gothic Knights will send three women — Drumright, Guerrero, and first-year athlete Naomi Henry to the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) in Tiffin, Ohio on March 6.
Watch the feature, entitled “3 Women Wrestlers from NJCU Head to National Championship.”
