JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) has appointed Melissa Faulkner as its new Director of the reimagined Career Success Lab. Tamara Jhashi, Ph.D., Provost and Senior Vice President, made the announcement in a letter to the university community on March 28. The appointment is effective April 4.

Faulkner comes to NJCU with more than 20 years of experience in career services, focusing on areas such as employer development, career counseling, and experiential education. Her team on campus will provide NJCU’s students with excellent preparation for professional growth in careers and lifelong learning and through collaboration with critical members of the university community, including faculty, staff, alumni, and others, will create broad and deep connections that lead to relationships with employers.

Faulkner’s most recent role was at Bloomfield College as Director of Academic Advising and Career Education. She arrived at Bloomfield after six years at Montclair State University in the roles of Director for Career Success and Director of Cooperative Education and Internships.

Her higher educational career development and planning experience includes nearly three years as Director of Career Services at Felician University, and prior to that as Job Developer/Career Counselor at Monmouth University, Director of Career Planning at Cedar Crest College (Pa.), and Assistant Director for Experiential Education at Seton Hall University.

In addition, Faulkner has served a term as president of the New Jersey Association of Colleges and Employers and co-founder/president of the New Jersey Career Center Consortium. She is also a volunteer career counselor at Unchained at Last, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting women who choose to leave arranged marriages.

She holds a Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Relations, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology — both earned at Seton Hall.
