“Collaboratively leading NJCU during the past eight months from crisis to recovery has been one of the most humbling and fulfilling experiences of my career, and I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made to put this community on a path to a stable and exciting future,” said President Acebo. “I’m excited to take part in this prestigious national program to continue learning new strategies and approaches that will help NJCU better deliver on its mission to serve its community and help provide socioeconomic mobility for our students.”
The leadership program for new state college and university presidents and chancellors allows participants to prepare for the specific challenges first-time presidents and chancellors are likely to face alongside peers from across the nation, while being guided by an impressive faculty of current and former presidents, chancellors, cabinet-level administrators, and national subject matter experts. Throughout the program they gain invaluable resources and insights that they can take with them into the rest of their careers and ensure the long-term success of their universities.
The 2023 NPA will be held from July to December 2023, and included a four-day, in-person gathering from July 26-29, 2023 in Carlsbad, California, monthly interactive cohort gatherings, a half-day in-person gathering at AASCU’s Annual Conference in November in Chicago, small group reflection and discussion sessions regarding each participant’s leadership challenge, and formal mentoring with NPA faculty and current and retired AASCU presidents and chancellors.
The objective of the New Presidents Academy is to support new presidents with a practical orientation to the presidency, as well as to create a community of support made up both of peers as well as experienced (current and retired) presidents. The program includes informative discussions on a president’s multiple roles, and helps the president assess the current state of their university including the effectiveness of its senior team.
