Dr. Virginia Ochoa-Winemiller Included as Subject Expert in Article on a Latina Entrepreneur
JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) professor Dr. Virginia Ochoa-Winemiller, Associate Professor and program coordinator in NJCU’s Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies Program is included as a subject expert in an NJ.com and Star Ledger article on Larina entrepreneurs entitled “This N.J. Latina entrepreneur is helping her competitors succeed. Here’s why.”
The August 26, 2024 article was published by NJ Advance Media writer Daysi Calavia-Robertson and profiles Ashley Mora, owner of a Bound Brook landscaping business, who has taken the unusual step of helping other Latinos who own landscaping businesses in the Somerset area, succeed, even though some may view the companies she is helping as her competition. Ashley’s now the head of the newly formed Latino Outreach Committee for the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association
Dr. Ochoa-Winemiller said: “Sadly, Ashley is the exception and not a common case. Seldom, an individual will take time, something that for our Western society means money, to help those in need.”
Ochoa-Winemiller says Ashley’s willingness to help can be viewed as a “strength” that ties her back to her Latino community and culture.
