JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) will host "Getting Ready for the World Cup 2026 '101'," a free community event designed to educate and excite attendees about the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which is coming to the United States and nearby MetLife Stadium next year. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Gilligan Student Union Multipurpose Room (2nd Floor).

The event is free and open to the public. To register, visit www.njcu.edu/WorldCup101.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest sporting event ever held in New Jersey — larger than even Super Bowl XLVIII in February, 2014 — with matches, including the finals, scheduled at MetLife Stadium. This educational session welcomes soccer enthusiasts of all knowledge levels, from dedicated fans to newcomers curious about the global phenomenon.

"We're thrilled to offer this opportunity for our community to learn about and prepare for this historic sporting event coming to our doorstep," said Gus Penaranda, the President of Evolvere, which is organizing the event. "The World Cup represents more than just soccer—it's a celebration of global culture, international cooperation, and community spirit."

Local elected leaders and businesses are expected to attend. The event will feature:

  • Overview of participating teams and star players
  • Information about host cities and venues
  • Cultural significance of the World Cup
  • Networking opportunities with fellow soccer enthusiasts
  • Discussion of economic and tourism impacts on New Jersey

This initiative is organized by NJCU's Division of Student Development and Community Engagement, and sponsored by Evolvere, The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ), juego.juegos social app, Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Jersey City.
