The event aims to engage and educate our undocumented students in areas of career and professional development, legal protections, and community resources. Participating students will be able to learn from legal and non-profit experts who focus on empowering the undocumented student population, with a special focus on professional career opportunities.
Speakers and topics that will be introduced at this event include:
- Natalie Acevedo (Make the Road, NJ): advocacy; SIJ documentation process for temporary work permits, rights regardless of status in NJ
- Ludka Zimovcak (VisaServe): How to apply for DACA and/or legal citizenship + other global initiatives
- Jeremiah Gonzalez (NJ Consortium for Immigrant Children): policy advocacy and youth empowerment through holistic youth-centered legal representation
- Ashley Garrett (Code the Dream- virtual presence): socially impactful training program powered by a diverse community of coders from immigrant and low-resourced backgrounds for youth of immigrant and low-resourced backgrounds
- Carolina Valdivia (“My Undocumented Life”)" keynote speaker
- Maria Perez (NJCU alumna and former president of the NJCU DreaMEers Club): Q&As for college and career success
