NJCU's 38th Annual Salute to Graduates of African Heritage is a special annual event hosted by the Black Administrators, Alumni, Faculty, Students and Staff Organization (BAAFSSO) at NJCU.
Our Salute to Graduates ceremony is an opportunity for our students of African Heritage to be celebrated for their achievement in higher education with Baccalaureate, Master’s as well as Doctoral degrees. The ceremony which is a special event for students who plan to graduate in May or Summer 2024, includes a gift; a reception with family, friends, and members of the University community; a procession of the graduates, a keynote speaker, and the distribution of certificates to graduates.

On behalf of the Black Alumni, Administrators, Faculty, Students, and Staff Organization (BAAFSSO), I want to begin by congratulating you for completing your degree at New Jersey City University. You are experiencing a profound transition filled with endless possibilities. As this change occurs, always remember you deserve a seat at every table and if not given the opportunity create it. You are rock stars who can get on any stage and shine brightly in every room. If doors are unfairly closed, push through and remind the world of your excellence.
This process included so many members of your community. From the family who encouraged you to push through any hurdles to the friends who were there with you step by step, the culminating achievement of graduation was a team effort. We at BAAFSSO want to extend our hand, as you become a permanent member of this organization. We encourage you to remain involved and stay in touch as you reach the next levels and new heights of your career, schooling, and beyond. As you transition to becoming alumni, remember the moments you experienced as a student leader, athlete, or scholar and impart that knowledge to the next generation of BAAFSSO members. Your history, culture, and heritage are all guiding forces towards your future success and societal impact. Know that we are always with you. Congratulations!
