Getting Started

Now that you are enrolled, we know that you are anxious to get started with your online course. The information below describes recommended steps for accessing your course for the first time.

Log In Information for Blackboard Learn Ultra

Online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses are all delivered using the Blackboard Learn Ultra learning management system (LMS).  Even if your course is face-to-face, your instructor may still use Blackboard to deliver content to you, such as the course textbook, course syllabus, assignments, etc.

Access to your online, blended or web-enhanced course(s) will generally be available after 12:00 noon on the first official day of the semester, or when your instructor unlocks the course shell in Blackboard.  Although it is not necessary for all students to log in simultaneously at 12:00, we do recommend that you access your online course at some time on the first day of the semester so that you may consult the syllabus, textbook/course materials, and assignments that may have been posted by your professor.

We recommend that you complete the Student Orientation - Welcome to Blackboard Learn Ultra course, our online tutorial, before logging into your course for the first time. The Orientation course will be available to you two weeks before the official start of the semester. You may access the Orientation course by following the instructions below for logging into your course. Please note: While the Orientation course is available to you, your actual academic course(s) may not be accessible until the first official day of the semester.

To Log into Blackboard Learn Ultra, please follow the steps below:

  1. Use your Web browser (e.g., Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, etc.) to locate the following URL: http://blackboard.njcu.edu
  2. Click the Login with GothicNet ID button
  3. Type in your GothicNet ID, and your GothicNet password, and click the Logon button. (Your GothicNet ID is generally a seven-digit number and does not contain @njcu.edu)  Note: Your GothicNet ID is the ID and password you use to access the NJCU GothicNet portal to register for classes, check your grades, or access other campus information.
  4. All courses in which you are enrolled in will appear in the My Courses channel of your My Web Courses page inside Blackboard. To access a course, click on the title of the course.

Textbooks/Course Materials

If your online course requires a textbook, inside your Blackboard course you should see a link for BibliU.  BibliU is the University’s textbook provider.  You should not have to purchase textbooks for your course unless expressly stated by your professor.  If you have any problems accessing your textbook using the BibliU link inside your Blackboard course, please contact the NJCU Store located on the first floor of the Gilligan Student Union Building on the NJCU Campus.

If your professor has adopted publisher-prepared content for your course, you may need an access code (in addition to your user name and password) when you enter your course for the first time. Access codes are usually located within the BibliU tool link inside your Blackboard course, too.  An access code is typically a series of letters and numbers and each access code can only be entered once (i.e., you cannot use another student's access code).

It is the student's responsibility to retain copies of his/her own work and/or correspondence posted to online courses for any future reference. All course sites, including content, are routinely removed from NJCU servers at the conclusion of each semester/session.
