About the Margaret Williams Theatre
The Margaret Williams Theatre, located in Hepburn Hall on the main campus of New Jersey City University, is a 1,026 seat proscenium theatre venue.
Opened in 1931 as an addition to the only building on the campus at that time, the theatre was originally designed as a combination auditorium and gymnasium. In 1968 it was extensively renovated for exclusive use as a theatre and dedicated to long-time faculty member Margaret D. Williams. A dedicatory plaque is located in the theatre lobby. In 1998 the theatre was renovated once again, with upgrading of the audience area and repair of the elaborate plasterwork.
The Margaret Williams Theatre is the home of University theatrical productions and concerts presented by the Department of Music, Dance & Theatre. It also hosts lectures, films and numerous University and community events and ceremonies throughout the year.
The theatre is professionally equipped with a full theatrical lighting system and an extensive sound system.
The Margaret Williams Theatre is located in Hepburn Hall and is convenient to both public transportation and parking. (View our maps and directions information or parking information.)
The Margaret Williams Theatre is also available on a rental basis to organizations that need a fully equipped theatre space for their events. For more information please contact the Director of NJCU Theatres at (201) 200-3441.
