Korean
Korean is spoken by almost 80 million people, mostly in North and South Korea, but there are also large Korean-speaking communities in China, Russia, Japan, and the United States. Because of South Korea’s strategic prominence as an ally of the US and its leading role in technological innovation, Korean is an important language in the fields of international relations, technology, and business. In addition to its traditional culture, the “Korean Wave” or “Hallyu” has successfully exported South Korean music, cinema, fashion, and other forms of pop culture to the rest of the world in the last decades.
Starting in Spring 2021, our department will offer classes of Korean at the elementary level.
