Portuguese
With more than 250 million speakers, Portuguese is the ninth most spoken language in the world. Additionally, it is a widely spread language: besides being the official language of Portugal, Brazil (the largest country of Latin America), and several African countries (such as Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, and São Tomé and Príncipe), Portuguese is also spoken in places as distant from each other as China, the US, and India. Because of its many speakers and its rich cultural past, Portuguese is a global language with great importance in business, international relations, education, and the arts.
Our department offers classes of Portuguese at the elementary level.
